AR / VR

To mention, two of such disruptive technologies that our tech world has faced comprises, mobile phones and E-Commerce.

Challenges, Opportunities and Threats of AR and VR

The 21st century has built innovations that has acted as a disruptive technology to the benefit of mankind. It began with Artificial Intelligence being incorporated into robots, and is now progressing into building an artificial/virtual world. Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are the two keywords that are seen in the air. An augmented reality works into creating information in the existing environment, whereas virtual reality aims to build a different virtual environment for the end users.

Virtual Reality is a gaming technology in its mainframe, as most of its operations are into gaming whereas augmented reality is involved in blending the digital real-life experience into the main stage of our lives. Virtual reality experiences are computer generated and creates its own reality. Augmented reality is created in the existing environment by adding the probable digital contents to it.

Challenges to AR

Needs to be more cost-friendly : VR technology creates their own artificial world, were the users as third party enjoys their time. But one of the most concerning challenges is that VR technology is too costly costing close to $2000. Even though conglomerates like Google and Microsoft have this technology with them, it is difficult to access this technology for a friendly cost.

Lack of Mobility: This is yet another important concern that VR has to go through, those of you who have played a VR game would know the strings and cords attached to the console. Hence the fact that it is not mobile enough, is concerning. VR needs a 360-degree user experience space, which makes it restricted to being immobile.

Security Concerns : As with any technology connected to the Internet pool, there is only a matter of time before the security gets hit. It is important to protect the VR headset and other devices attached to it, from any malicious attacks. Several options can be put forward such as biometric tracking, authentication of end user etc.

Opportunities and Threats of AR/VR

Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are a kind of new phase technologies that has created opportunities in different fields like entertainment, education etc. Several companies have eyed on these disruptive technologies in order to properly utilize them for the good of the users. Opportunities of these technologies reach far and wide from marketing to creating profits for a business organization. Although most people are not aware of the positives associated with these technologies, the opportunities can reach far. Most people who are aware of such technologies they may not have experience in using it. Currently, most of the organizations use AR and VR technologies for marketing their products. The opportunities for marketing are open to companies using AR and VR. In terms of gaming, these technologies can help organizations to gain an upper hand. Providing the state-of-the-art gaming technologies to the users benefits the organization in terms of its reach as well.

As we have seen the opportunities associated with these technologies, so are the threats associated with them. Other than cyber-attacks, these technologies can squeeze out information from the users to end up in attacking the users itself. The user information privacy is an important aspect that is now in question. Several internet giants such as Facebook, Google etc., are already squeezing out information from the users. This information can be used to exploit the users. The privacy and security concerns are always associated with any connected device; hence the cyber threats are always prevalent. Augmented and Virtual reality is definitely a boon in several fronts, but it can also turn out to be a bane, if not used carefully.
